Grades 4-6 are recreational teams, and teams are created to be as equal as possible. Grades 7-8 are competitive and the top players are placed onto one competitive team. Remaining players are placed on a recreational team. Depending on the number of athletes registered, grades may be combined within the school or with other parish schools in order to field a team.
PracticesPractices are scheduled 2 or 3 times per week. Since all our coaches are volunteers, we try to accommodate the coaches’ work schedules as best we can. Practice times can begin after school at 2:30, or they can start as late as 8pm (for older kids). Duration is usually 90 minutes. A final practice schedule will be determined the 2nd or 3rd week of August. Practices are held in the St. Matthew Father Noble Center (large gym).
Uniforms and EquipmentUniforms will be provided by St. Matthew. Girls will need their own knee pads for practices and games.
GamesGames are held on Saturdays OR Sunday afternoons/evenings. One game lasts 1 hour and is the best of 3 sets. Teams usually play 2 games per day, either back to back or with an hour break in between. Games begin in September, and the final schedule is released a few days before the first game.
LocationGames will be played at a school within the diocese, and teams will stay at that school for the duration of the season. That location will change only if there is a scheduling conflict.
TournamentsGrades 5-8 participate in an end-of-season tournament at varying locations. 4th Grade will play regular season games during tournament weeks.
