The Music Ministries assist the priests of our parish in liturgical celebration. Music serves the expression of faith and forms a necessary and integral part of the solemn liturgy. It imparts a sense of unity during worship and sets the appropriate tone for a particular celebration. The following choirs are part of the music ministry:
Currently, one group sings at the 10:00 Sunday Mass, September through May, and on other special occasions. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings. Choirs may sing at other Mass times, depending upon interest and availability of participants.
Choir members can hear and learn music available anytime outside of rehearsal by visiting St Matthew the Apostle Parish Choir.
This group sings for each funeral. Interested participants are notified via e-mail or phone and arrive 30 minutes beforehand to prepare the music. Funerals usually occur in the mornings during the week and also occasionally on Saturdays.
The Handbell Choir plays during the liturgy where appropriate, either as a group or as a small ensemble accompanying the choir and organ/piano.
For more information on the Adult Choir, Funeral Choir, or Handbell Choir, contact Dawn Shininger or call (614)471-0212 x1117.
The Youth and Teen Choirs provide opportunities for students of our parish of varying ages to participate in the liturgy in a unique way and to grow in fellowship with other youth and teens in the parish. The Youth Choir is open to students in grades 2-6, while the Teen Choir is open to students in grades 7-12. Involvement fosters an appreciation for music as a form of prayer, creates an understanding of the importance of music in celebrating and rejoicing in God’s Word, and promotes a deepened respect for our Catholic faith and traditions. The Youth and Teen Choirs each sing at least once a month during the year and on specified Holy Days.
