Among those who gather with
us on any given Sunday, there may be some who are searching
for a church to call their
own. Some are Catholic but are new to the area and are trying
to decide which parish to join.
Others may not yet be part of
any Church but are visiting different Churches to find
a community of faith in which they feel comfortable and
welcomed. To
be a welcoming community is an important component of any parish.
Hospitality
is a vital element in creating a sense of community for
worship. A person who feels welcomed and valued is much
more likely to enter wholeheartedly
into the celebration of the liturgy. Giving thanks to God for the love that
He bestows upon us. A friendly and welcoming usher or greeter can make that
love
of God apparent to people as they arrive for the celebration of weekend Mass.
This
welcome is extended in many ways. As official hosts of
the parish, Ushers and Greeters make all who enter its
doors feel comfortable; being equally
hospitable to strangers and friends; extending a helping hand to the disabled
in attendance,
and being alert to handle any emergency. |
