Our Community Outreach Ministries assist the Pastor in reaching
out to those inside, and outside, our parish borders who need
our faith-filled and caring assistance. In the Gospels, Jesus
instructs his followers of the importance of practicing corporal
works of mercy. When we act in kindness and concern for another
human being, we do it for Him as well. On a daily basis, we
are faced with social and moral issues that test the core values
of our faith. In these times, the plight of the poor and homeless
appears to be an unbreakable cycle of misery. Abortion is a
moral and social evil that must not be condoned.
Euthanasia and capital punishment are two other examples of
social policy that conflict with Catholic belief in the sanctity
of life. We need to speak out strongly against these policies
and other social injustices. Working through our social action
ministries we can effect positive change. One person can make
a difference.
Included in the Community Outreach Ministries at St. Matthew
the Apostle Church are the following:
A volunteer for this group: Enjoys working
with others in our faith community to achieve a common goal;
desires to effect positive change of social issues that conflict
with Catholic beliefs; is willing to reach out to help those
in need within, or outside, our parish border
