| Purpose: |
|
The purpose of the parish Nursery
ministry is to provide baby-sitting for infant, toddlers, and preschoolers
while their parents attend Mass or participate in parish
adult enrichment activities.
The Nursery allows parents
to attend Mass without their very young children, permitting
them to fully participate in the Mass. For this reason,
a Nursery is available at all weekend Masses. |
| Activities: |
| |
Our volunteers supervise
children in the parish nursery during Mass, and for other
designated parish services. The safety
and comfort of the children is ensured in a warm, Christian environment.
The Nursery has been made a kid-friendly space where children
can feel comfortable.
Baby-sitting is also available for select
celebrations and activities. When they occur, these are
noted in the bulletin. |
| Background: |
| |
As we all know, Mass is
the complex celebration of prayers and ceremonies that
make up the service of the Eucharist.
The gospel message instructs us how to interact in a complex
and ever-changing world. The Sunday scriptures provide us guidance
on dealing daily with issues of justice and charity, and with
matters great or small.
All of this is uncovered through our
active participation in the liturgy. At times, this can
be challenging with presence of very young and active
children. |
| Responsibilities: |
| |
This ministry is responsible
for: Recruitment of nursery volunteers; training and preparation
of the nursery
volunteers; scheduling of volunteers for all masses and other
sacrament celebrations as required; and maintaining procedural
documentation relating to this ministry. |
| Commitment: |
| |
The Nursery operates as a cooperative.
Parents who leave their child(ren) in the Nursery are expected
to take turns supervising. Anyone with an interest in working
with children is also welcomed to volunteer in the Nursery.
Volunteers range in age from young teen through senior
citizens. There is no
minimum commitment for volunteers.
