SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

Purpose:

 

To develop Sacramental Preparation ministries beginning with, Pre-Cana the preparation of engaged couples to live the Sacrament of Marriage within, and through, the Catholic Christian Community. This preparation is required for all Catholics who intend to get married, even if the marriage is at a non-Catholic church. The priests of the parish are happy to answer specific questions about Church theology, policies, and practices on marriage.

Activities:
 

Pre-Cana facilitators perform the following duties: writing and critiquing presentations, conducting Pre-Cana for the parish in April and October, acquiring materials for the workshops, hosting the Pre-Cana workshops, listening to engaged couples’ hopes and fears, attending workshops presented through the Family Life Office, reading about Christian marriage, and praying for life-long marriages. Any couple, married at least one year, interested in this ministry, and a member of the parish, is welcome to join. Interfaith couples are both needed and welcome.

Background:
 

At St. Matthew Parish, we have always sought to prepare people for the sac aments. This preparation has taken many forms over the years. Presently, the only ministry in this category is Pre-Cana.

We hope to develop other opportunities to serve in the future.

Responsibilities:
  Pre-Cana is responsible for: Recruitment of facilitators; training and preparation of the facilitators; Pre-Cana preparation of the soon to be wed couple; scheduling and hosting of sessions as required; and maintaining procedural documentation relating to this ministry.
Commitment:
 

The length of service for this ministry is typically two years. The parish reimburses volunteers in this ministry for all workshop expenses, baby-sitting expenses, and costs of materials. No dues are required for this ministry.
